IAHE distance learning photoIn 2009, the IAHE will become a web based program allowing participation from all over the world. The ADEA/AAL Institute for Allied Health Educators (IAHE) is a professional development program designed to prepare faculty in allied dental education, and other allied health professions for successful academic careers. The IAHE helps participants refine teaching skills that will enhance the quality of their interactions with students and facilitate confidence, job satisfaction, and professional growth.

Who should participate?

This program is designed specifically for educators in dental hygiene, dental assisting, physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiography, respiratory therapy, speech pathology, or any other allied health field.

What will I learn?

Educators enrolled in this program, whether beginners or seasoned faculty in need of a mid-career boost, will gain experience with the latest techniques for key teaching tasks such as:

  • evaluating student competence,
  • presenting lectures,
  • planning courses,
  • learning in small groups,
  • working with difficult students, and
  • teaching in the clinic.

Participants will:

  • learn new strategies to enhance student motivation,
  • review research on educational best practices,
  • explore the impact of student learning styles,
  • analyze the characteristics of today’s Gen Y learner,
  • complete self-assessments of their own teaching strategies, and
  • expand their network of allied health faculty members across the U.S.

AAL plans to announce the dates for the 2009 IAHE in February 2009.
