The Chairs and Academic Administrators Management Program (CAAMP) is a practical, hands-on, interactive experience that develops the core competencies required for effectively managing an academic department or academic program. Often, administrative executives experience a need to improve their overall management and leadership skills as a prerequisite for continued success and promotion. CAAMP includes many opportunities to achieve insights into your leadership and interpersonal styles, so you can grow professionally and personally.

CAAMP is a 3-day program devoted to teaching you the leadership and management skills needed for every administrative level, from department chair to dean. CAAMP participants will earn 25 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). These are provided through the American Dental Association CERP and the Academy of General Dentistry PACE program. As other professions make CEUs available for CAAMP, this page will be updated with those details.


You will receive assessments that provide insights about your personality, behaviors, prevalent leadership style, and your preferred method for dealing with conflict. In addition, you will receive one-on-one career coaching with a CAAMP instructor. During the program, you will create a career action plan to expand and augment your strengths and set achievable goals for advancement. Through group discussions, case studies, role-playing, interactive exercises, and presentations, you will learn to excel at the following:

  • Managing up and working with senior administrators
  • Conducting effective meetings
  • Conflict management
  • Faculty development
  • Work-life balance
  • Time management
