Principles of Adult Learning
Workshop

Duration

4 hours (half-day)

Synopsis

Workshop participants begin the program by completing the PALS Inventory (Principles of Adult Learning) to assess their preferred style of interacting with students. Participants then review the characteristics of adult learning theory (ALT) and identify how ALT can be incorporated into their teaching responsibilities. Participants also discuss the "cop to coach" continuum of teacher roles followed by a self-assessment of the roles they most typically assume during interactions with students.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

-         Describe components of the adult learning theory and analyze the research support for this model.

-         Identify components of adult learning principles that can be incorporated into their teaching responsibilities.

-         Discuss the characteristics associated with the cop and coach teaching models.

-         Self-assess the teacher roles that they most frequently assume when interacting with students.
