Course Description
Parents are under real strain, and educators are often the ones absorbing it. In this members-only two-week online course, Lisa Damour guides independent school educators through her new book, The Emotional Lives of Parents, with content created specifically for those who work alongside families. You'll leave with a clearer read on what parents are carrying and firmer footing in the conversations that follow, and you'll have the chance to bring your questions to Lisa in a live Q&A.
Course Format
Participants are guided through The Emotional Lives of Parents by the author herself in a two-week asynchronous online course. Each week, Lisa frames the lessons of her book through an educator's lens and offers her thoughts and questions for educators to consider while reading the text. The course adds resources on the school's role in supporting parents, presents a case study for participants to explore with peers, and opens discussion around a central question in the reading. Following the end of the course, participants are invited to join a live Q&A with Lisa. Expect to spend six hours each week in the course to read the book along with taking the course, or three hours a week for participants who have already read the book.
Please note: participants should obtain a copy of the book prior to the start of the course.
Course Creators
Dr. Lisa Damour is the author of three New York Times best sellers: Untangled, Under Pressure, and The Emotional Lives of Teenagers, which have been translated into twenty-three languages. She hosts the Ask Lisa podcast, works in collaboration with UNICEF, and is recognized as a thought leader by the American Psychological Association. Dr. Damour authored the monthly Adolescence column for The New York Times, is a regular contributor to CBS News, and created Untangling 10to20, a digital library of premium content to support teens and those who care for them. Her co-creator is Brad Rathgeber, President and CEO of the Association for Academic Leaders, and a veteran teacher and administrator in independent schools.
